Amazon.com Inc. has launched video reviews, enabling customers to use video to share their opinions and demonstrate the use of products on the site. Customer-generated video reviews are located within the customer reviews section of items in the Amazon.com catalog.
To post a video review, a customer uploads a .WMV., .MPEG, QuickTime or .AVI file to the customer reviews section of any product detail page. The new Flip Video camcorder from consumer electronics manufacturer Pure Digital provides on-board software that allows users to upload a video to Amazon.com from a computer in a matter of minutes, Amazon says. Although customers can use any camcorder that generates files in the above formats, Amazon cites the Flip Video camcorder for being easy to use.
“We are dedicated to offering our customers an information-rich shopping experience so they can know which products are right for them,” says Colin Bodell, vice president, Amazon.com. “The chance to see product demonstrations as submitted by fellow customers is just the latest benefit to shopping on Amazon.” Amazon is No. 1 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.
Videos imbedded into consumer reviews are among the top online content features cited by online shoppers as what influences their online purchase decisions, according to research conducted by Chicago-based The E-Tailing Group Inc. 77% of consumers surveyed by The E-Tailing Group said they were “somewhat to very” significantly influenced in online purchasing decisions by the quality of online content, and the online content they ranked the highest were customer reviews and ratings on products, including reviews with customer-generated videos and photographs.
