BabyUniverse acquires DreamTimeBaby.com
BabyUniverse Inc., an online retailer of baby and maternity products, has acquired all of the outstanding stock of Huta Duna Inc., the parent of baby products e-retailer DreamTimeBaby.com, BabyUniverse said today.
BabyUniverse, No. 224 in the Internet Retailer Top 400 Guide to Retail Web Sites,
will pay $6.4 million in cash plus 53,165 shares of BabyUniverse’s common stock, BabyUniverse said. The transaction closed Sept. 13.
DreamTimeBaby generated $1 million in operating income on $7 million in gross sales for the 12 months ended June 30,
compared to an operating loss by BabyUniverse of $249,100 over the same period, BabyUniverse said.
“We have admired DreamTimeBaby as a competitor for many years and look forward to applying their excellence in managing gross margins and advertising expenses to our existing business,” said BabyUniverse chairman and CEO John C. Trextor. We believe the transaction represents an attractive purchase valuation as compared to anticipated 2005 results. With accretive benefits believed likely for fiscal 2005, DreamTimeBaby represents an excellent first installment.”
