After a brief hiatus, Sears once again is expanding e-commerce

After placing web development on the back burner to focus on building e-commerce and brand name products synergy, Sears Holdings Corp. once again is expanding Sears.com.

The retailer, No. 7 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites, is adding new customer service features and new merchandise to Sears.com. Additionally, Sears customers now will be able to redeem gift cards for purchases on Sears.com.

Sears also is adding several new lines of merchandise, including tires, shoes, and health and wellness products. "Everything we do starts and ends with the customer," says Chris Shimojima, vice president and general manager of customer direct at Sears Holdings. "The changes to Sears.com are a result of our listening to our customers` feedback and designing new features to improve their online shopping experience."

Sears is a major online retailer of appliances, lawn and garden equipment, and fitness equipment. To increase sales in its core merchandise categories and attract traffic to its new product lines, Sears also is implementing several new site enhancements. “We are enabling online visitors to determine how products are displayed, providing easy reference to recently viewed products and making site navigation more intuitive,” Shimojima says.
