CCBN AND AKAMAI DEMONSTRATE 200 PERCENT GROWTH IN FINANCIAL WEBCAST VOLUME
Companies cement long-term relationship to provide services to global
corporations
BOSTON and CAMBRIDGE, MA - July 2, 2001 - CCBN (www.ccbn.com), the leading
provider of Internet-based shareholder communications services, and Akamai
Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: AKAM), the leading provider of distributed
application and content delivery services, today announced widespread
adoption of the companies` joint solutions for complete financial webcast
management in the wake of Regulation FD.
The companies jointly delivered nearly 6,000 webcast events in the first six
months of 2001, with a combined audience in excess of 1.25 million. These
figures represent a 200 percent increase in the number of live events during
the same period last year, and a ten-fold increase in the number of
listeners. There was also substantial growth in the number of end users
listening to the archived replay of these events, up from 100,000 archive
listeners in the first 6 months of 2000 to over 3.5 million listeners in the
same period in 2001.
"Our goal when we do a webcast is to broadly disseminate the same
information to everyone, no matter what level of investor they are," says IR
online communications manager Lisa Magleby of Cisco Systems, Inc., which
uses CCBN`s webcast services extensively for their quarterly earnings
conference calls, product announcements, analysts meetings, and conference
presentations. "We want to give our shareholders equal access to
information, and webcasting gives them a close-up view of our philosophy."
"Akamai has proved to be an invaluable partner in advancing CCBN`s efforts
to facilitate timely, effective communications between companies and
investors via the Internet," said Greg Radner, director of marketing, CCBN.
"As the demand for interactive webcasting in the financial sector continues
to rise, CCBN, together with Akamai, will continue to provide comprehensive
solutions to address enterprise needs for highly scalable, high-performance
Web communications. We project that we will reach 10 million listeners in
2001, and we need a global partner like Akamai that can scale to accommodate
this growth."
CCBN and Akamai also announced a new multi-year agreement whereby CCBN will
continue use of Akamai`s globally distributed network of servers and
enterprise streaming services to power the Internet-based, financial
communications of its more than 2,500 corporate customers.
"The financial community has been at the forefront of Internet use for the
delivery of critical, time-sensitive information as well as on-demand events
and conferences," said Beau Beck, director of product management, Akamai.
"We`re excited to expand our relationship with CCBN over the coming years to
further assist the adoption of the Internet as a cost-efficient platform for
business communications. CCBN is a clear leader in delivering vital news
and information to the financial industry."
