Former Expedia president joins Mpire e-marketplace as chairman and CEO

Matt Hulett, former president of online travel services company Expedia, is the new chairman and CEO of Mpire, the online comparison shopping service announced today. Mpire also said it launched today a service that lets online shoppers compare deals from eBay, Yahoo, Overstock, Craigslist and other auction and classified sites.

“The new Mpire online shopping service puts power in the hands of the consumer and increases their purchasing confidence,” Hulett said. “No other shopping service combines search and powerful analytics together in an accessible intuitive package. Think of it as the start of ‘Shopping 2.0’¯search and analytics to help buyers make smarter and more informed decisions.”

Mpire.com lets users shop by price, seller, type of payment, location, and the number of bids on any given item.

Mpire also announced today an agreement with eBay Inc. to power its Collector’s Corner, a new section of eBay.com that provides shoppers with features including visual search tools and forums for sharing information with other collectibles shoppers.

“Collectors have such a wide range of interests that we felt it was important to develop a central hub that could appeal to the long-time passionate collector or to the person just getting started,” Laurence Toney, director of eBay Collectibles said. “Mpire is enabling us to provide the eBay community with easier ways find things, become more informed collectors, and exchange with others who share similar collecting interests.”
