Adobe Systems promotes Shantanu Narayen to CEO
Adobe Systems, provider of rich media technology including Flash and Scene7, has promoted president and chief operating officer Shantanu Narayen to CEO. Narayen, who retains his title of president, succeeds Bruce Chizen, who served in the top spot for the past seven years.
As president and chief operating officer, Narayen led day-to-day global operations, set long-term market strategies, and oversaw all research-and-development, marketing, worldwide sales and corporate investments. He also worked with Chizen to lead Adobe’s 2005 acquisition of Macromedia Inc., the maker of Flash rich media technology.
Narayen had served as president and chief operating officer since January 2005. He had also served in other executive positions since joining Adobe in 1998. Prior to Adobe, Narayen co-founded Pictra Inc., a digital photo-sharing software company, and held management positions at Silicon Graphics Inc. and Apple Inc.
“Shantanu’s extensive knowledge of our products and platforms, customer experience and exceptional operational leadership make him the ideal choice to lead Adobe as CEO,” Chizen says. Chizen will remain on the Adobe board through next spring and continue as an advisor through 2008.
