Mosaic Leverages GXS Managed Services to Improve Vendor-Managed Inventory Solutions
Field Sales and Marketing Leader Outsource B2B E-Commerce Transactions in its Fast-Growing Entertainment Division to GXS
GAITHERSBURG, Md. — September 21, 2005 — GXS, a leading provider of business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce solutions, today announced that Mosaic has selected GXS Managed Services, a comprehensive B2B outsourcing solution, to increase flexibility and automation of its B2B e-commerce transactions. Mosaic, the leading field sales and marketing company that is changing the way brands connect with consumers, is using GXS Managed Services to manage merchandising and distribution e-commerce transactions between retailers and entertainment companies. Mosaic chose to outsource the development and operation of B2B information exchanges to GXS so it could refocus its business resources on the operation of its fast-growing entertainment division.
Mosaic’s entertainment division provides vendor-managed inventory (VMI) services to the motion picture studio community by performing in-store merchandising and replenishment of DVDs and videos in large retail outlets such as Wal-Mart, Target and Best Buy. Challenged with meeting the unique needs of its global customers, Mosaic needed a solution that could handle the burgeoning number of inventory replenishment communications and transactions between entertainment suppliers and their retail customers. Mosaic chose to outsource the management of its B2B information exchanges to GXS because of its highly scalable Managed Services offering that can deliver B2B services around the globe.
“While the growth within our entertainment division is a very positive development, we need to devote appropriate resources and support in this area to ensure its further expansion and success. Outsourcing the management of B2B transactions between our entertainment suppliers and our retail customers provided us with a solution for freeing up internal resources, while also supporting the projected increase in business transactions volume,” said John Kohlschein, director of client information for Mosaic. “After comparing other solution providers, we chose GXS Managed Services based on the scalability and superiority of its services. We also are looking forward to achieving reduced operating costs and seamless business growth through our use of the service.”
Mosaic’s unique business model allows it to become an extension of a supplier’s brand. The company represents its supplier clients with retailers via in-person visits to increase sales effectiveness through targeted merchandising and selling activities. Mosaic, which made significant investments in technology to be way ahead of its competition in serving clients’ needs, chose GXS Managed Services to ensure seamless B2B communications between the company, its clients and the retailers who distribute their products. Improved B2B communication is critical to helping the products and brands of Mosaic’s clients stand out in relation to the competition to ensure bottom-line impact.
GXS Managed Services delivers unique business value in industries where business success often is driven by the effective deployment of B2B e-commerce transactions. Organizations that use GXS Managed Services can free internal resources to focus on core business objectives and fill gaps in internal expertise by utilizing the service as an extension of the IT department. By using GXS Managed Services, Mosaic is reducing operational costs, increasing productivity and improving business performance, all without adding additional headcount.
“Vendor managed inventory is a growing trend in today’s global marketplace and Mosaic is clearly helping to set the pace. To remain at the crest of the VMI wave, Mosaic must ensure that it is devoting the appropriate amount of resources for profitable and seamless expansion,” said Steve Keifer, vice president of solutions and product marketing at GXS. “GXS Managed Services is the ideal choice to meet this goal. Not only will the solution enable the company to focus on core business operations – it also will allow Mosaic to strengthen relationships with its major retail and entertainment customers, giving Mosaic a competitive advantage in the marketplace.”
According to Kosin Huang of the Yankee Group, “Managed services providers can help organizations lower the cost to serve customers and suppliers, and ensure they can meet the changing requirements of their trading partner community. This is because they are a faster and more cost-effective option for deploying B2B e-commerce to a wide trading partner base due to their expertise, experience, existing network and shared infrastructure. By addressing the fundamental obstacle in deploying effective B2B e-commerce (i.e., serving as an intermediary to establish technical and process agreements between unique and heterogeneous organizations), B2B managed service providers are emerging as a viable and effective option for enabling B2B e-commerce within and across trading partner communities.”1
GXS has more than 16 years experience and more than 100 clients currently using GXS Managed Services around the world, including 7th Online, Actaris, Eight O’Clock Coffee, Exel Consolidated Services, National Instruments, OFS Portal, Royal Bank of Canada and Thomson Consumer Electronics. As a key component of the GXS Trading GridSM, Managed Services offers the technical infrastructure to conduct a global B2B program, including transaction management, data translation, systems administration, and supplier performance reporting capabilities. In addition, GXS Managed Services provide customers with the B2B experts to deliver world-class B2B program management, trading community management, and customer support.
