CompUSA counts on the web to fast track holiday sales
CompUSA Inc. is joining the growing ranks of store-based retailers using the web to get a big start on holiday sales.
The chain retailer, No. 42 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, will hold a one-day sales event online at CompUSA.com beginning at midnight on Thanksgiving. CompUSA.com will feature online exclusives and discounts on electronics such as notebook and personal computers, flat-panel TVs and monitors, printers and portable DVD players.
Shoppers can also preview online circulars with other in-store specials.
Each year retailers are starting the holiday season earlier. For example, CompUSA will open its stores from 9 p.m. through midnight on Thanksgiving night. On the Friday after Thanksgiving, CompUSA will hold a seven-hour sale in stores and online with deep discounts on various products while supplies last. “Our shoppers enjoy an early start,” says CompUSA.
CompUSA will use the web in other ways to drive early holiday sales, including posting Internet deals for the Monday after Thanksgiving and the creation of personalized gift cards. For a fee of $4.50, shoppers can select a gift card, upload a favorite image and choose various background patterns, fonts and colors. Shoppers then have the option of sending the card along with an e-gift notice to the recipient’s e-mail address or printing out the gift card and notice.
Last year CompUSA reached out to customers with shopping offers, gift services and technical assistance to help speed them through the gift-giving process. This holiday season the retailer is promoting its expanded online wish list, gift recommendation tools on various category and product pages and the “12 Days of Christmas,” which begins Dec. 13 and features daily specials on select items online and in stores until Christmas.
