Cool Company On The Net: Carrier Selects Vignette To Power Its Corporate And Consumer Sites

Global HVAC Leader Engaging Customers Using Vignette Content Management and Personalization Applications

AUSTIN, Texas (July 11, 2001) Vignette Corp. (Nasdaq: VIGN), the leading provider of customer-driven Internet applications, today announced that Carrier Corp., a world leader in the manufacture and sale of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems and products, has selected Vignette® applications to power its corporate and consumer sites, including http://www.carrier.com/.

Carrier.com, the first Carrier site to go live with Vignette applications, is a gateway to product-specific sites for home comfort solutions, industrial solutions and refrigeration systems. Each division-specific site houses thousands of pages of information regarding products and services offered by Carrier. To manage these large volumes of content, Carrier has implemented Vignette applications to enhance its customers’ online experience by providing them with the most personalized content.

“Vignette applications provide us with the tools we need to manage escalating costs and engage our customers with the information they need to help them reach a buying decision,” said Andre Papaleo, vice president of e-Business at Carrier. “With Vignette applications, Carrier is able to place content responsibilities in the hands of information owners, simplifying workflow and reducing site maintenance costs.”

Carrier has chosen the Vignette® Content Management Server (VCMS) and the Vignette® Lifecycle Personalization Server (VPLS) to power its sites. VCMS enables Carrier to easily update content on the Web site, while VLPS improves customers’ online experiences by personalizing information to meet their unique needs. Following the successful implementation of Vignette applications on Carrier.com, the Carrier commercial sites will soon follow, including http://www.residential.carrier.com/ and http://www.carrier-commercial.com/.

“As a global leader, Carrier requires applications that reinforce its position by ensuring its Web site is dynamic and engaging for current and prospective customers,” said Dan J. Lautenbach, senior vice president of Global Sales and Operations at Vignette. “Vignette applications provide Carrier with the solid foundation needed to meet business and IT objectives while acting as a catalyst for growth.”

Carrier Corp. is the world’s largest manufacturer of heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration systems and equipment. It is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), provider of a broad range of high-technology products and support services to the aerospace and building systems industries.
