Reel deal gives 800.com brick-and-mortar customers

The new deal between online consumer electronics retailer 800.com, Portland, OR, and movie content site Reel.com will give 800.com access to brick-and-mortar customers. Reel.com is owned by Hollywood Entertainment which operates 1,800 Hollywood Video stores in the U.S. “If you look at the millions of households who go to Hollywood Video stores every month, there is an opportunity to expose our very wide range of consumer electronics to them,” says Greg Drew, president and CEO of 800.com. “There is 100% overlap in customers because people who buy videos also buy consumer electronics.”

Drew says 800.com will look to do more deals that give the pure-play retailer crossover with compatible retailers and web sites. “This is a deal that is representative of exactly what we want to do more of—partner with noncompetitive companies that want to take advantage of our four years of direct to consumer e-commerce expertise,” he says.
