Using the web, Real Mex Restaurants cuts credit card approvals to 1 second

With deployment of the web technology-based iPass Retail Connection, Real Mex Restaurants has reduced to one second the time it takes to approve a credit card transaction, while cutting overall IT costs by 65%, the company says.

The iPass Retail Connection, from iPAss Inc., runs on an IP virtual private network that replaced the legacy ATM/Frame network formerly used by Real Mex, a chain of about 200 restaurants. In addition to credit card transactions, the system also supports the employee e-mail system, the distribution of internal company communications and the sending of orders to vendors. “Our customers are served more efficiently, our employees are more productive and the price performance of the system has exceeded our expectations,” said John Koontz, vice president of IT for Real Mex.
