PriceGrabber introduces Visa debit gift card

PriceGrabber.com, a comparison shopping site, is getting into financial services as a way to increase customer service and boost sales at thousands of participating merchants. It will offer a new Visa debit gift card later this week good at all retailers who accept Visa debit cards.

PriceGrabber will let consumers purchase the cards at its site in values of $25 to $250, with no extra costs or shipping fees. It will ship the cards through the U.S. Postal Service.

Card recipients will be able to redeem card values by entering their card number during the online checkout process. Although the cards can be used at any merchant that accepts Visa debit cards, PriceGrabber is promoting their use at the more than 3,000 merchants linked to PriceGrabber.com. Card holders will also be able to check value balances and review transaction activity at PriceGrabber.com.

PriceGrabber said demand for online gift cards was underscored by the National Retail Federation 2003 Holiday Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey, which found 48.4% of consumers expressing interest in receiving gift cards, up from 41.3% a year ago.
