Wakefern Food Corporation Selects and Deploys Hypercom Payment Terminals
Consumer Activated Terminals at 205 ShopRite Supermarkets in
5 States Will Serve up to 4 Million Consumers Weekly
PHOENIX, July 26, 2001 – (Hypercom Corporation: NYSE: HYC) -- Wakefern Food Corporation, the distribution arm for ShopRite Supermarkets, has selected and is installing more than 4,000 smart card-enabled Hypercom ICE 6000 card payment terminals across the ShopRite chain. The terminals are already installed and operating in more than 170 supermarkets. When the installation is completed, the high performance ICE terminals will handle up to
4 million consumer transactions every week.

Hypercom`s ICE 6000 is specifically designed to meet the needs of the multi-lane payment terminal and systems market, which generally includes the top 100 US and selected global retailers, including supermarkets, department stores, chain drug stores, mass merchandisers and other retailers.
The multi-function ePOS-infocommerce (epic) ICE 6000 card payment terminal is packed with value-added features. The high performance, Internet-enabled terminal and web appliance features a large 5.7", 256-color ¼ VGA touch screen graphics display and pen input screen.
The ICE 6000 comes equipped with a variety of communications options, including ethernet TCP/IP, and has been successfully interfaced to ShopRite`s POS registers and in-store systems. The ICE 6000 also incorporates a firewall-protected multi-application operating system, EMV chip card capability, secure PIN pad, and built-in HTML/HTTP web browser.
In addition to the embedded applications, the ICE 6000 supports a range of value-added applications and services including: electronic receipt capture, e-mail, on-screen advertising, interactive electronic coupons, and cash management reporting through a standard browser – as well as secure credit, debit and smart card functions.
