Sharper Image’s web sales grow 36% in quarter


Internet sales at Sharper Image Corp. grew 36% for the quarter ended Oct. 31 to $17.4 million from $12.8 million a year ago, the company reported today. Companywide sales were up 24% to $127.8 million from $103.2 million in the same quarter last year. The Internet accounted for 13.6% of sales vs. 12.4% a year ago. Sharper Image’s other channels all contributed to growth, with store sales up 24% (comparable store sales up 10%) and catalog sales up 20%.

For October, Internet sales were up 34% to $7 million from $5.2 million in October last year, with total sales up 35% to $50.5 million from $37.4 million.

For the nine months ended Oct. 31, Internet sales increased 42% to $52.5 million from $36.9 million, total company sales increased 26% to $369.6 million from last year`s $294.3 million. Total store sales increased 27%, comparable store sales 14% and catalog sales 16%.

"We have great sales momentum in all channels and across a wide range of products and price points, supported by our successful multimedia advertising, as we enter the important holiday season,” said Richard Thalheimer, founder, chairman and CEO. He noted that Sharper Image’s proprietary Ionic Breeze silent air purifier sold particularly well in southern California during the recent fires and resultant smoke and pollution.
