Sun Microsystems posts sharpest gain in traffic of hardware sites in April
Sun Microsystems posted the sharpest year-to-year gain in the number of unique visitors to hardware manufacturers’ sites in April, with visits increasing 113% to 3.4 million from 1.6 million, according to Nielsen/NetRatings. Gateway experienced the sharpest decline, with visits dropping 11% to 1.7 million from 1.9 million.
The top site in number of visitors was Apple, which had 33.5 million visits, up 40% from 24 million a year earlier. Ranked second was Dell, with 16.7 million visits, up 3% from 16.2 million; followed by Hewlett Packard, 12.9 million, up 9% from 11.8 million; Sun Microsystems; IBM, 2.5 million, up 9% from 2.3 million; Gateway; Epson, 1.6 million, up 45% from 1.1 million; Motorola, 1.3 million, up 18% from 1.1 million; Intel, 1.3 million, up 18% from 1.1 million; and Palm, 1.3 million, down 7% from 1.4 million.
In the top 10 ranked by time per visit, Apple led with 1 hour, 2 minutes and 52 seconds; followed by Cisco Systems, 23 minutes, 25 seconds; Dell, 19 minutes, 11 seconds; IBM, 14 minutes, 14 seconds; Gateway, 12 minutes, 39 seconds; Palm, 12 minutes, 30 seconds; eMachines, 11 minutes, 45 seconds; Hewlett Packard, 11 minutes, 9 seconds; Nintendo, 9 minutes, 34 seconds; and Xbox, 9 minutes, 25 seconds.
Also in April, the books, movies and music segment had the most online ad impressions in the retail goods and services industry, according to Nielsen’s AdRelevance Report. The leading segments in the report and their number of impressions (in millions) are:
