BestBuy.com launched customized gaming PCs
Best Buy Co. Inc. has launched an online program that enables customers to design Velocity Micro computer systems to meet their specific gaming needs and then purchase them directly from BestBuy.com. It is the first time Velocity has sold computers through a retailer, a BestBuy spokesman says.
Velocity Micro, a leading manufacturer of high-performance gaming enthusiast PCs, allows customers to personalize computer features such as audio and video components, cases, keyboards and software. Typically, customers buy the computers directly from Velocity.
Best Buy developed the program based on customer feedback indicating that PC gamers tend to rely heavily on maximizing their computer’s performance and want more options to customize PCs to their particular gaming needs. Customers can go to BestBuy.com, click on “Desktop Computers” and customize their system from a wide assortment of pre-configured Velocity Micro gaming systems.
“This marks a new era in PC gaming at Best Buy,” said Kevin Balon, vice president of customer centricity at Best Buy. “We know our customers are always looking for innovative and convenient ways to maximize their gaming experience and these high-performance Velocity Micro PCs should help do that for them.”
BestBuy, No.10 in the Internet Retailer Top 400 Guide to Retail Web Sites, plans on adding non-gaming custom offerings for Velocity Micro computers later this year. John Thompson, senior vice president and general manager of Best Buy Co. Inc.’s BestBuy.com, will speak at the Internet Retailer 2006 Conference in June on “Delivering Web Content That`s Focused on Customer Needs.”
