Books-A-Million logs 6.5% Q3 web sales increase
Chain and online books retailer Books-A-Million Inc. reported third-quarter 2008 online sales of $6.6 million, up 6.5% compared with $6.2 million in the prior year quarter, according to the company’s recent Securities and Exchange Commission filing.
Books-A-Million, No. 251 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, attributed the net sales increase in the electronic commerce segment to a strong performance in business-to-business sales.
The company’s retail segment accounted for $115.6 million in sales across about 210 stores concentrated in southeastern states. That marked a 6% increase compared with $108.9 million in the third quarter of 2007.
Comparable store sales for Q3 2008, ended Nov. 3, 2007, increased 2.1% compared with the same period in the prior year. The company attributes that increase to higher sales of best-sellers and other promotional offerings.
Online sales for the first nine months of 2007 were $19.3 million, up 4.3% from $18.5 million in the same period of 2006. Total sales were $366.8 million for the period, up 6.1% from $345.8 in the prior year period.
