Dell Helps Duckwall-ALCO Stores Bring Big-Store Shopping to Small-Town America
Retailer Standardizes on Dell from the Headquarters to the Back Office and Checkout Lanes
Round Rock, Texas, October 31, 2005 --
Duckwall-ALCO Stores, Inc. is using Dell technology to help ensure customer
satisfaction at each of its 250 stores in the United States.
The Midwest regional retailer is making a significant investment to refresh technology at the corporate headquarters and stores with a range of DellTM products and services, including point-of-sale (POS) systems, servers, storage, workstations, desktops, notebooks and laser printers. The new technology will enable Duckwall-ALCO to tailor marketing efforts around customer preferences in each store and improve in-stock product selection by tracking the products selling from each location.
Through Customer Factory Integration (CFI) services, Dell is pre-loading the corporate image on each desktop computer before shipping it to the Duckwall-ALCO stores. To avoid a disruption of business, the Dell services team will remove the old equipment and install the Dell POS systems after business hours. A Dell OptiPlexTM desktop computer is being installed in the back office of each store for employee training and office operations such as email and payroll. The phased installation is expected to begin in the company`s ALCO stores in March 2006.
"By turning to Dell as an end-to-end solutions provider for hardware, software and services, we will have leading technology, a seamless implementation process and top-notch service and support to help accelerate our company`s success and growth," said Tony Corradi, vice president and chief technology officer of Duckwall-ALCO Stores. "Our customers will quickly see an improvement through our in-stock positions, better in-store experience and the introduction of new customer loyalty programs."
Each POS solution includes the Dell 15-inch touch screen monitor, Tomax Retail.net software running on a Dell OptiPlex GX620 Ultra Small Form Factor desktop computer enclosed in the Retail Integrator, which is a compact stand designed by Dell for check-out stations, along with a cash drawer, scanner, receipt printer and signature capture for credit and debit card payments. More than 1,500 Dell POS systems will be installed in Duckwall-ALCO stores.
In addition to the Dell POS solution, Duckwall-ALCO Stores has invested in Dell PowerEdgeTM 2850 servers and Dell/EMC storage systems.
"By offering high-quality products and services at affordable prices, Dell enables retailers like Duckwall-ALCO Stores to more easily manage IT infrastructures and lower the total cost of ownership to facilitate enormous growth and improve customer service," said Bill Rodrigues, vice president of Corporate Business Group, Dell Americas.
