NEW YORK, Aug. 10 -- EC Media Group, a division of Thomson
Financial and the leader in technology-oriented publications and
trade shows, announced today that James T. Ryan, Executive Vice President,
Marketing and Sales for W. W. Grainger, Inc., will deliver the keynote address
at the Electronic Commerce World 2001 Conference & Exhibit on Friday, October
12, 2001, at Chicago`s McCormick Place. Mr. Ryan`s speech, entitled "Using
the Internet to Extend the Bricks and Mortar Business," will present
successful strategies for growing business by using the Web.
Grainger provides businesses and institutions the maintenance, repair, and
operating supplies that keep their operations running. Grainger`s sales over
its Grainger.com Web site grew by 164% last year, accounting for $267 million,
or 5 percent of the company`s $5 billion sales for 2000. Jim Ryan is uniquely
able to discuss how Grainger has accomplished that since he headed the
Internet business during that period. In his current role, he is integrating
the Internet channel with the traditional branch business to accelerate growth
even faster.
"Jim Ryan is an authority on the strategic use of eCommerce to build
customer relationships and enhance corporate growth. EC World 2001 is pleased
to have him address our distinguished group of attendees in October," said
Edward Dwyer, General Manager of Electronic Commerce World Conference and
Exhibit. "We look forward to hearing from Jim what large and small companies
need to know to successfully integrate the Internet in their businesses."
Mr. Ryan joined Grainger in 1980. His career has included a number of
progressively responsible positions within Grainger. He served as president
of Grainger Parts and Vice President, Corporate Information Services, before
heading Grainger.com. Ryan graduated from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, in
1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration. He earned
his MBA from DePaul University in Chicago. He currently serves on the CIO
Magazine Advisory Board and is a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma National
Business Honor Society.
