Internet sales in the first third of the year at Sharper Image Corp. fell 12% from a year ago to $29.4 million from $33.5 million, the company reports. A year ago, Sharper Image was in a string of high-flying sales increases with web-based sales up 45% from a year earlier.
Total company sales for the four months ended May 31 were $186.8 million, down 8% from $204.1 million a year earlier. The web accounted for 15.7% of all sales in the first four months of this year vs. 16.4% a year ago. Store sales for the four months were $107.5 million, down 4% from $111.7 million a year earlier. Comparable store sales year-to-date decreased 16 percent.
Internet sales in May were $6.2 million, down 14% from $7.3 million in May 2004. Total company sales were $45.6 million, down 11% from $51.4 million a year ago. Store sales were $29.2 million, down 4% from $30.3 million a year earlier. Comparable store sales in May decreased 15%.
