Rite Aid to launch web-to-store digital photo service

Rite Aid Corp. will launch a digital photo service this summer that lets shoppers upload digital photos at RiteAid.com and arrange for pickup of prints within one hour at Rite Aid stores, the retailer said today.

Rite Aid said it will roll out the service to nearly 800 of its West Coast stores before the end of this summer, but did not say when the service would become available throughout its chain of about 3,400 stores in 28 states. It’s offering the service in partnership with digital image platform provider Pure Digital Technologies.

“Rite Aid is committed to being a leader in digital photo products and services," said Jim Mastrian, Rite Aid’s senior executive vice president of marketing and logistics. "Our partnership with Pure Digital will allow Rite Aid to be the first national drug chain to provide this innovative print-to store online service to our customers, allowing them the convenience of easily uploading their digital photos from home and picking them up at their local Rite Aid store in one hour.” Pure Digital is also providing Rite Aid with one-time-use digital cameras, which Rite Aid will sell through its stores.

The launch of RiteAid.com’s new photo service coincides with the termination on the site of the Kodak Picture Center, which will continue to offer digital photo services until June 30.

Rite Aid offers online shopping for prescription and general non-prescription goods through a link on RiteAid.com to Drugstore.com. Drugstore.com also powers the RiteAid.com platform.
