First-quarter sells increase 20.8% at Toysrus.com
First-quarter sales at Toysrus.com totaled $64 million, up 20.8% from $53 million in 2004’s first quarter. Online sales represented 3% of Toys “R” US Inc.`s total first quarter sales of $2.1 billion.
The first-quarter operating loss for Toysrus.com was reduced to $2 million, compared with $5 million a year earlier. Overall, Toys R Us reported an operating loss of $38 million, compared with a loss of $15 million in the first quarter of 2004.
Sales were strong across all product categories on the web site, with the juvenile and toy businesses each posting gains of more than 20%, the company says. Toys R Us operates three web sites in addition to Toysrus.com: imaginarium.com, sportsrus.com and babiesrus.com.
