Deal Lets Consumers Shop the Web Sans Computer

Giving frenzied Christmas shoppers one more option, Internet titan Amazon.com (www.amazon.com) and digital wireless phone network Sprint PCS (www.sprintpcs.com) have inked a deal that allows owners of Internet-ready Sprint phones to shop at Amazon.com without a computer. Customers can now purchase books, CDs, and toys by choosing the Web site from their telephone minibrowsers.

Customers can buy and send gifts by entering the recipient's e-mail address once they have pre-registered at Amazon.com, and the Web site will then contact the recipient to arrange delivery. Amazon.com is also offering customers the opportunity to shop using Palm Pilots.

Sprint launched its PCS Wireless Web service in September 1999, offering wireless Internet-based content access and services including shopping, stock trading personalized news, weather, stock quotes and e-mail.
