Fleet Plans Online Visa Chip Card

Boston-based Fleet Card Services is launching the Fusion smart Visa card, a smart card-based credit card that will have both offline and online functions. Consumers will be able to apply for the Fusion card online at www.fusioncard.com beginning Friday, September 15, 2000. The Fusion card will have a 32-kilobyte microprocessor chip that can be used in conjunction with a smart card reader for secure online purchases. The chip card will have preloaded promotions and discounts as well, although the companies did not disclose details.
