New name reflects BabyUniverse’s family of online products and content
BabyUniverse has changed its name to The Parent Co. to underscore its overall focus on the family via its toy and parenting web sites, and plans to launch a new corporate web site this week called TheParentCompany.com.
The Parent Co. was formed by the merger of eToys Direct and BabyUniverse, which was approved by the companies’ respective boards in October and gave eToys shareholders controlling interest in the new company. Prior to the merger, eToys was No. 101 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide and BabyUniverse was No. 207.
“The new name more accurately reflects The Parent Company’s focus on meeting the growing needs of today’s parent, through our balanced model of commerce, content and new media,” says Michael J. Wagner, president and CEO. “Our company name and ticker symbol align our corporate mission with our reputation as a trusted online resource for families. The Parent Company targets families during the earliest stages of pregnancy and maintains those relationships as their children move into their teenage years, providing us a platform to build meaningful and sustainable value for our shareholders.”
The company will continue to trade on NASDAQ exchange under the existing ticker symbol KIDS.
As part of the name change, the company will launch a new corporate web site, TheParentCompany.com, later this week. The site describes the company’s e-commerce, content and new media businesses. Toy brands include online and catalog toy retailer eToys.com, and MyTwinn.com, maker of personalized dolls and accessories. The Parent Co. also is an online retailer of brand name baby, toddler and maternity products sold through BabyUniverse.com and DreamtimeBaby.com, and offers luxury baby apparel and furnishings on PoshTots.com and PoshLiving.com. Content sites BabyTV.com, PoshCravings.com and ePregnancy.com contain resources for new and expectant parents.
