High Performance SSP™ CipherServer® 1680 Delivers Fastest SSL Sessions at Lowest Cost Per Accelerated Transaction, Uniquely Provides Acceleration
Load Balancing and Remote Administration
IRVINE, Calif., August 27, 2001 - SSP Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq: SSPX), providing solutions and services that enable secure, real-time movement of valued digital content for consumer and enterprise applications, today announced SSP™ CipherServer® 1680 as a component of its SSP™ Security Suite. CipherServer speeds up authentication functions required for secure transaction processing, and significantly enhances the SSP Security Suite of services, hardware, software and embedded security products that embed security and trust throughout the electronic transaction chain.
"Servers frequently perform dedicated or application-specific functions, and simply cannot handle the drain of secure transaction processing. Every time one is burdened with the intense mathematical functions that are the basis of cryptography, its primary application runs at a dramatically reduced capacity - creating a highly unacceptable user environment," said Richard Depew, president and COO, SSP Solutions, Inc. "Now a Web-hosting administrator has the power and tools to quickly deliver the secure transactions that more and more consumers are demanding. Nothing has the elegance and ease of use of CipherServer 1680 - it`s a powerful addition to our SSP Security Suite."
This next generation CipherServer includes many new features such as increased performance and ease of administration of Web-hosting installations, and clustering support allowing multiple Web servers to share a single CipherServer board. Automatic load balancing offloads operations to multiple CipherServer-enabled servers, and fail-safe protection ensures that if one CipherServer becomes unavailable, the load is automatically redirected. Alert notifications generate email notifications when selected events happen such as system overloads or performance bottlenecks. Remote monitoring and configuration allow administrators to view all performance and status information, and also configure all CipherServer and client machines from a remote location.
With simple drop-in and go installation, CipherServer off-loads demanding public key operations to on-board processors - high performance cryptographic chips provided by Broadcom Corp. (Nasdaq: BRCM). CipherServer then handles the complex public key algorithms that significantly diminish server performance. For example, a server processing 400 pages per second may reduce processing speed to 30-60 pages per second when those sessions incorporate SSL (secure sockets layer) technology. By off-loading these intensive cryptographic functions, CipherServer eliminates serious drains on server resources and maintains up to 1680 SSL authentications per second.
The SSP Security Suite offers a wide range of solutions including a hardened silicon chip capable of metering the distribution of digital content; a secure system for packaging and distributing digital content; a standalone appliance that ensures content integrity of any Web site; a secure applet that enables the creation of information exchange networks among customers, partners and suppliers; a software solution that resizes Windows and creates a "taskbar" from which open programs can be displayed; software for managing certificate and token creation and distribution; and a 32 bit cryptographically-enabled smart card.
SSP is propelled by a formal, ten-year alliance with Electronic Data Systems (NYSE: EDS), a global industry leader in information assurance, to provide SSP products as a core component of the Secure Digital Communications offering of its worldwide Information Assurance Group.
