ShopLocal names a retail information veteran as its COO
Chicago-based ShopLocal, which provides online search services for consumers looking to shop at local merchants, has named Vikram Sharma as chief operating officer
Sharma was president of the Data Systems Division of Information Resources Inc., where he led the development of IRI’s scanner-based InfoScan service. He also has been partner and chief information officer at Grant Thornton LLP, where he implemented a technology modernization program that enabled Grant Thornton’s mobile workforce to evolve from a geo-centric model to a virtual services organization.
At ShopLocal.com, which launched in August 2004, shoppers use the ZIP-code search engine to find sales and specials at local retail stores. They can search by item, store, or category. ShopLocal is owned by Gannett Co. Inc., Tribune Co., and Knight Ridder Inc., which also own CareerBuilder.com, Cars.com and Apartments.com.
