BlueLight.com's latest effort to bring its customers online: a low-cost computer

First it offered free Internet access as a way to lure its largely un-webified, middle- and lower-income customer base to its web site. Now BlueLight.com, Kmart's Internet operation, is offering a PC, monitor and printer for $650, equipped with BlueLight.com's Totally Free Internet Service. The True Blue PC includes an Intel Celeron 633 MHZ processor, 7.5 GB hard disk drive, a 56k modem, 32MB RAM, a CD-ROM, floppy disk drive, keyboard and scrolling mouse. Fully loaded with software for work and play, the True Blue PC features Microsoft Windows '98, MS Works for word processing and spreadsheet capabilities, a trial version of Norton Anti-Virus software, Adobe Acrobat and Camp Yahoo! Video Tutorial, a video designed to introduce new users to the Internet. Shoppers can opt to purchase the PC, the monitor and the color printer separately, or as a complete system and receive a discount on the bundle. "As part of Kmart's and BlueLight.com's combined strategy to bring technology and the Internet to the mass market, the BlueLight True Blue PC offers a practical and affordable solution to meet our shoppers' computing needs," said Dave Schuvie, vice president of E-Commerce Merchandising for Kmart. "We're thrilled to expand Kmart's consumer electronics assortment by offering an affordable, fully-loaded personal computer nationwide." The BlueLight PC comes with a one-year manufacturer's warranty and all BlueLight PC customers receive 30 days of free technical support available 24 hours a day, seven days a week via phone and email. An additional 11 months of phone support can be obtained for $30. Whether the PC is purchased at BlueLight.com or at Kmart, the BlueLight True Blue PC can be returned to any Kmart store.
