Egghead lays off 77

Egghead.com laid off 77 of its employees-12% of its work force-earlier this week in an effort to trim costs. Egghead has 591 employees left. The company is trying to reach profitability by Q4 2001. The layoffs were across the board with 40 coming from its Menlo Park, Calif. office and 37 from its Vancouver, Wash. office. The company said it does not plan any more layoffs. "Today`s reduction in force is a further step in our ongoing commitment to streamline the business and sharpen the focus on our business customers," said Jeff Sheahan, president and CEO of Egghead.com.
