CIO departs 1-800-FLOWERS.com

Enzo J. Micali resigned as senior vice president and CIO at 1-800-FLOWERS.com in late December and joined London-based Taylor Nelson Sofres PLC, an international market research company.

1-800-FLOWERS.com, No. 35 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites, has not named a replacement and will turn to existing information technology staff and upper management to fill the breach until a new CIO is hired, a company spokesperson says. The company offered no explanation for Micali’s departure nor a timetable for his replacement.

Micali’s resignation comes at a time when 1-800-FLOWERS.com has a lot of IT projects on its plate. The multiple-market retailer is chewing on information systems integration challenges resulting from its purchase of Fannie May Confections Brands Inc. in May. It also is digesting consolidation of multiple e-mail marketing systems from its acquisitions and start-ups in recent years, including food, wine and gift basket web sites.

Micali joined 1-800-FLOWERS.com in 2000 and was responsible for overseeing all technology plans and programs for the online retailer and its subsidiaries.

1-800-FLOWERS.com chairman and CEO Jim McCann is the keynote speaker for Day One of the Internet Retailer Conference & Exhibition, June 4-7 in San Jose in a session titled The Web: Powering the Reinvention of Retailing.
