Digital sales outstrip CDs for Yo-Yo Ma’s new album
Digital music has definitely gone mainstream: Cellist Yo-Yo Ma’s new album, released Jan. 9, is the first album among Sony recordings to sell more digital copies than CDs in its first week, Sony BMG Masterworks reported today. 57.1% of sales in the first week were digital. The album peaked at No. 2 on iTunes` overall album charts and finished the week at No. 4.
Sony Classical has created a podcast series based around Ma’s latest album, to be featured on iTunes` podcast page. In addition, Ma’s entire catalog is now available for digital purchase.
The album, “Appassionato,” is a compilation of romantic music.
