Grocers Looking to Grow Online

GroceryWorks.com, Safeway, Inc.'s exclusive Internet grocery provider, has selected EXE's Exceed eFulfillment System (eFS) as the warehouse management system for its fulfillment centers. GroceryWorks has 600 employees and fulfillment centers in Houston, Ft. Worth and Dallas. The company offers personal shopping and same-day delivery.

Safeway, one of the largest food and drug retailers in North America, has formed a strategic alliance with GroceryWorks.com, a Dallas-based, online grocer and Internet-enabled fulfillment and delivery company, to offer an online grocery option to its customers.

"GroceryWorks.com needed a flexible, scaleable and reliable eFulfillment and warehouse management system designed for the requirements of the grocery home delivery market," said Kelby Hagar, GroceryWorks.com founder and president. "Exceed eFS integrates the customer order process with sophisticated back end inventory management and routing systems."

In 1998, Safeway selected EXE's Exceed warehouse management system software to manage order fulfillment at its warehouses. Safeway has more than 20 distribution centers and annual sales greater than $31 billion.
