Online Pharmacies Get Rejuvenated

Drugstore Web sites regained favor from consumers in June, as four leading online pharmacies significantly advanced in the June rankings of PC Data Online's Top 20 Online Retailers. Drugstore.com led the pack, jumping to No. 5 from No. 7 in May with 335,000 buyers. Planetrx.com jumped to No. 7 from No. 19 with 309,000 buyers. More.com rose to No. 9 from No. 18 with 244,000 buyers, and natural products retailer mothernature.com with 214,000 buyers earned the No. 11 spot from No. 22 in May.

"Drugstore sites consistently post high conversion rates,'' says Cameron Meierhoefer, Internet analyst for PC Data Online, Reston, Va. "Promotions and steep discounts have played their part in driving transactions, but the continued strength of this category strongly suggests that there is a lasting market for drugstore products on the Web.'' Meanwhile, Amazon.com again led all Internet retailers in June with 1.5 million buyers, down from 1.7 million buyers in May. Tickemaster.com held its ground at No. 2 with 619,000 buyers and pets.com continued to climb in the rankings, claiming the No. 3 slot with 442,000 buyers. Etoys.com came in at No. 17 with 128,000 buyers.

Posting the biggest gain in the June ranking was dell.com, which jumped to the No. 15 spot from No. 31 with 161 projected buyers. Also posting large gains was maternity/babies site estyle.com, which landed at the No. 20 position from No. 35 in May.
