Toysrus.com Thinks X-Men Sales Will Be Marvelous

Toys "R" Us Inc. online subsidiary Toysrus.com has opened the Web site's exclusive channel, "Marvel's X-Men Official Online Store," to sell toys, action figures and other merchandise connected to the movie based on the Marvel Enterprises Inc. characters. The 20th Century Fox film opened July 14. "We think this will be one of the hottest movies and toy properties of the summer," says Greg Ahearn, vice president of marketing for Woodcliff Lake, N.J.-based Toysrus.com. "We're already seeing tremendous interest in the site from fans and collectors. A number of X-Men products are looking like they are going to be in huge demand right through the holiday season." Projected top-selling X-Men merchandise includes the Toad, Wolverine and Storm 2 packs of 8-in. collectible figures from Marvel's Toy Biz division. Each pack contains a figure modeled after the comic book character and one based on the character's new look from the movie. There will be only 15,000 of each figure available, says the retailer, and they can only be purchased at Toysrus.com.

The Web site is offering a free online contest, "Classified: The X-Men Sweepstakes," in which fans can register for a chance to win X-Men related prizes. In addition, fans who visit the X-Men channel and purchase $10 or more of X-Men product until August 1, will receive a "X-Men Classified Capsule" with their order. It contains more than $20 worth of collectible X-Men merchandise and offers from Toysrus.com. The Toysrus.com X-Men channel also features movie trailers, links to partner sites, exclusive content including character biographies, cyber comics and free downloads of comic artwork.
