Shopzilla reports a 113% increase in revenues in the second quarter

Q2 operating revenues at online comparison shopping service Shopzilla.com totaled $29.5 million, up 113% from the year-earlier period, and up 9.7% from $26.9 million in the first quarter. Earnings rose to $7.6 million from $2 million in 2004’s second quarter.

“We’ve been growing sequentially, quarter over quarter, since the holidays and are powering through what has traditionally been our slow summer months,” said Chuck Davis, Shopzilla president.

Shopzilla, which became a wholly owned subsidiary of E.W. Scripps Co. on June 27, contributed about $1 million in revenues and $350,000 in profit to its parent company during the last three days of the quarter, said Kenneth W. Lowe, Scripps president and CEO.

Scripps reported second-quarter operating revenues of $627 million, a 15% increase from the year-earlier period, and net income of $97.6 million, up 13% from $86.4 million in 2004’s second quarter.
