FTD’s second-quarter revenue grows 38.8% to $151.5 million from year ago

FTD Group Inc. reported that revenues grew 38.8% from a year ago to $151.5 million for its fiscal second quarter ended Dec. 31. Net income for the quarter was $6.1 million, compared to $5.9 million in last year’s Q2. For the first half, the company reported revenue of $260.3 million and net income of $11.6 million.

Driving a large share of the revenue increase for the quarter was the company’s new international unit, U.K.-based Interflora Holdings Limited, which FTD acquired in July 2006; it contributed $37.5 million. Growth in the company’s domestic business contributed the remaining $4.8 million of the increase.

The company’s domestic consumer segment had revenues of $69.5 million in the second quarter, compared to revenues of $63.3 million a year earlier, an increase of 9.8%. Domestic consumer orders during the quarter totaled 1.13 million compared to 1.06 million in last year’s second quarter. The average order value rose 7.2% to $60.01 from $59.33.

The company reports that Internet orders totaled 88.5% of consumer orders, down slightly up from 89.3% a year ago. Based on those numbers, FTD’s web sales amounted to $60.3 million in the most recent Q2 vs. $56.1 million a year earlier, up 7.5%.

“We are pleased with our performance and the improvement in our business from a year ago. We believe we are very well positioned for the remaining two quarters of our fiscal year, which include Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day,” says president and CEO Michael Soenen. FTD is No. 48 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.

Consumer order volume in the international segment totaled 473,000, up 15.6% over the prior year’s second quarter. Average order value was $64.63 and Internet orders represented 69.3% of order volume.

FTD’s domestic florist segment achieved revenues of $44.6 million in the second quarter of fiscal year 2007, compared to revenues of $45.9 million in the same period of the prior fiscal year.
