SmarterKids Gets Smarter

SmarterKids.com, a major educational e-commerce Web site, has created a partnership with ChildU Inc., a provider of Internet-based distance learning for K-12 education. Through this partnership, SmarterKids.com will make ChildU's The Learning Odyssey curriculum accessible to its customers, creating a new source of revenue for both partners. Additionally, SmarterKids.com will recommend products to complement the ChildU curriculum learning program, the companies say. Teachers at Needham, Mass.-based SmarterKids.com evaluate and categorize every product and service offered by the company to make it easier for parents to find and buy the products and services that are most appropriate for each individual child. Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based ChildU's online curriculum takes a similar approach, integrating online assessments with educational materials.

SmarterKids.com has been rated the No. 1 educational toy site by Gomez Advisors. ChildU's The Learning Odyssey is a complete course of study, including text, multimedia content and assessment testing, for eight core subject areas, together with corresponding management and reporting systems. ChildU has created a propriety, interactive digital classroom accessible through its Web site. Its curriculum, which meets all state and national content and performance standards, can be used as a primary educational curriculum, a tutoring or enrichment tool or a supplement to a traditional school curriculum, it says. The company's services are available to institutions through an annual licensing fee and available to individual consumers on a monthly subscription fee basis.
