Coke joins UCCnet’s web-based supply chain network for store deliveries
A move toward smoother-operating supply chains took a big step today with the inclusion of The Coca-Cola Co. among businesses synchronizing product codes through UCCnet. Coca-Cola is expected to have a major impact on streamlining direct store deliveries for small as well as large retailers.
Coca-Cola and Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc., the largest bottler of Coca-Cola products, have signed a global agreement to use UCCnet’s web-based item registry and data synchronization services for Coca-Cola’s product line of nearly 300 brands of soft drinks, juices and other items. UCCnet is a non-profit unit of the Uniform Code Council Inc. that promotes web-based data synchronization standards among retailers and manufacturers. Like other companies that have signed on for UCCnet services, Coca-Cola will use them to assure that its retailers can easily access accurate and up-to-date product codes, providing for better supply chain collaboration.
"Our work in the development and adoption of industry standards is a necessary foundation to improved collaboration and a more efficient supply chain with our partners worldwide," said Jean-Michel Ares, vice president and CIO of Coca-Cola.
Glenn DuBois, vice president of business development for UCCnet, said Coca-Cola’s involvement will push ahead the benefits of data synchronization for a broad range of retailers. "Their leadership in adopting standards-based services for collaborative commerce and in further enhancing our current direct-to-store delivery capabilities will play a pivotal role in achieving critical mass globally for the UCCnet community," he said.
