Online sales stay on a tear, growing 38% vs. year-ago, comScore reports
Online retail sales were up 38% vs. a year ago for the week ending Nov. 3, with a significant increase in toy sales indicating that online holiday shopping has begun, reports comScore Media Metrix. Retail sales reached $843 million for the week vs. $611 million for the comparable week a year ago.
Online toy sales increased 66% to $25 million, while flowers and gifts sales were up 48% to $20 million and movies and videos sales were up 41% to $20 million.
Holiday shopping is not in full flower yet, Media Metrix says, as the sales increases were up only 8% from the average of the previous three weeks.
Total retail sales staged a recovery the same week, rising 15.9% compared to the previous week, reports ShoperTrak RCT’s National Retail Sales Estimate. Compared to the same week a year earlier, however, total sales were down 1.4%.
For the same week, online travel sales reached $546 million, up 34% from a year ago, Media Metrix reports.
