Yahoo Search grows faster, but Google still far ahead in market share


Yahoo Inc.’s Yahoo Search Marketing grew at the fastest clip in December 2006 in the number of Internet searches, rising 30.1% over December 2005 to a second-ranked market share of 23.6%, or 1.4 billion searches, but Google Inc. still dominated with a December market share of 50.8%, or 3.04 billion searches, up 22.6%, Nielsen/NetRatings reports.

Microsoft Corp.’s MSN Live Search remained in a distant third place, with a market share of 8.4%, or 500 million searches, down 9.7% from a year ago.

Ranked fourth was AOL Search, at a market share of 6.1%, up 7.8%, followed by My Way Search, at 2.4%, up 4.7%; Ask.com Search, 2.1%, up 17.2%; Earthlink, 0.5%, up 17.6%; Dogpile.com Search, 0.5%, up2.1%; Comcast Search, 0.5% (growth not available) and NexTag Search, 0.4%, up 123.2%.

Yahoo’s Matt Heist, general manager, Yahoo Shopping, will speak at the Internet Retailer Conference & Exhibition, June 4-7 in San Jose in a session entitled Mining the Big Portals Sites for Rich Data Nuggets.
