Ritz Interactive Inc., which operates the retail web sites RitzCamera.com, Boatersworld.com and ritzPIX.com, will accept electronic checks for payment through Certegy Inc.’s PayNet platform, Certegy reported today.
Ritz says it is offering an electronic check option to capture sales from customers who don’t have credit cards or don’t wish to use credit cards online. "Not everyone has a credit card. We want to be able to accommodate all customers to our Ritz Interactive sites by allowing them to make purchases by check," said Fred H. Lerner, president and CEO of Ritz Interactive.
Ritz expects that 10% of sales will be completed by check and that about half of those will be sales that otherwise would not have taken place. Ritz also reports that accepting checks will cost less than accepting credit cards.
“Electronic checks have become an important part of a retailer’s strategy to close more online sales – especially for consumers who want to pay by check,” said Jeff Carbiener, senior vice president and group executive, Certegy Check Services. “By offering the option for consumers to pay by check across all sales channels, retailers increase sales, lower return rates and encourage repeat business.”
"We chose Certegy to process our consumer electronic check payments because their fully guaranteed solution enables us to ship merchandise immediately upon approval and protects against all fraud, charge-backs and administrative returns,” Lerner said.
In addition to acceptance at the Ritz Interactive sites, Certegy has provided check management services for the more than 1,200 brick-and-mortar Ritz Camera Centers and Wolf Camera locations nationwide since 1997. Ritz Interactive is a company separate from Ritz Camera Centers.
