Google continues its search domination


Google continues its lock on search activity. Nielsen/NetRatings reports that Google hosted 46.2% of all Internet searches in July, more than double No. 2 Yahoo, which hosted 22.5% of all searches.

The average number of terms that users searched on was also higher at Google than anywhere else—27.4 compared to 20.1 for No. 2 Yahoo and 19.7 for Netscape. Users conducted an average of 37.6 searches across all engine in July, Nielsen/NetRatings reports.

The top engines and their market share in June and July were:
1. Google, 47.0%, 46.2%
2. Yahoo Search, 22.3%, 22.5%
3. MSN Search, 12.5%, 12.6%
4. AOL Search, 5.5%, 5.4%
5. My Way Search, 1.8%, 2.2%
6. Ask Jeeves Search, 1.8%, 1.6%
7. Netscape Search, 0.9%, 1.6%
8. Dogpile.com Search, 0.8%, 0.9%
9. iWon Search, 1.0%, 0.9%
10. EarthLink Search, 0.8%, 0.8%

The top engine by terms per user in June and July were: Total searches per searcher, 36.2, 37.6
