Former CoolSavings/Q Interactive chief launches review site Viewpoints.com
Matt Moog, former president and CEO of CoolSavings/Q Interactive who resigned from that position last August, has launched a new company, Viewpoints.com, an online platform for reviewers and an aggregator of reviews. “We’re building a community of reviewers and giving them a platform where they can best publish their reviews,” says Moog, founder and CEO. A distinguishing feature will be a format that features the personalities and quirks of the reviews, a build on the idea that reviews are more meaningful if they can be placed in the context of some knowledge about the reviewer, Moog adds. “Most other review sites don’t do that,” he says.
Moog compares the new media platform to YouTube.com. “They made it very easy for people to upload videos but they also brought in a huge audience of people to view those videos,” he says. It’s an advertising-supported model, including the sale of targeted advertising around the reviews themselves. Moog says some reviewers already established as top reviewers on the web as measured by contributions to other review venues sites and their own blogs will be paid for their reviews. However, their compensation will be for their contribution and not for any specific review. Moog also says advertisers won’t be allowed to influence or compensate reviewers.
Moog recruited executives from Q Interactive for his own senior management team. They include Jolie Fleming, vice president of content and community, who worked in marketing at Q Interactive; and Tim Brennan, vice-president of marketing, who had been senior vice-president of products and properties at Q Interactive. Vice president of technology Leon Chism was recruited from Orbitz.com, where he had been chief information officer.
While the web site Viewpoints.com already is up so reviewers, advertisers and review syndication partners can register, the application is still a few months from release, Moog says.
