VELOSEL AND CAPGEMINI U.S. JOIN FORCES TO STREAMLINE RETAIL AND CONSUMER PRODUCT INFORMATION MANAGEMENT
New Agreement Brings Collaborative Product Information Management Benefits to Manufacturers and Retailers
SANTA CLARA, Calif. and NEW YORK---Oct. 26, 2004---Velosel Corp., the leading provider of collaborative product information management (CPIM) software, has agreed to work with Capgemini U.S. LLC (Capgemini) to offer tailored global data synchronization (GDS) solutions to retailers and consumer products companies. The solutions are designed to help improve balance sheet performance, operating revenues and income, as well as drive cost optimization to customers. As part of this effort, Capgemini will provide implementation and consultancy services for Velosel5™, Velosel’s CPIM application.
Velosel plays an important role in Capgemini’s global retail and consumer products practice strategy, which is to support its customers in achieving the business benefits of applying global standards endorsed by the Global Commerce Initiative (GCI). Capgemini’s research shows that implementing GDS can save 1-3 percent of supply chain costs. The goal of the Capgemini/Velosel work effort is to develop joint product and service solutions that can enable clients to reap these cost benefits.
According to a recent report by Capgemini titled "Internal Data Alignment: Learning From Best Practices," more than 50 percent of the items in company systems contain incorrect data. The report also noted that nearly 75 percent of the information about consumer units is incorrect, and 57 percent of the information about traded units has errors. The report further stated: "The use of new enabling technology such as EPC-enabled RFID tags, which will provide previously unimagined visibility across the supply chain, simply will not bring their promised benefits unless they are built upon a foundation of quality information."
The Velosel™ software improves value chain efficiencies by limiting the risks of errors in product data and automating the process required to maintain this dynamic information while improving the productivity of the people and systems that use product information. Manufacturers and retailers across the United States and Europe use Velosel5 to build centralized repositories of product information, synchronize product information with their trading partners, and establish the foundation for emerging technologies, such as RFID.
Velosel is providing product training to Capgemini consultants, and the two companies are in discussion to finalize formal joint sales and marketing programs this year.
"Product information management is now an imperative for most large manufacturers and retailers who are trying to reach their GDS objectives, but it’s a complex process that can fall at the first hurdle if it’s not scoped out fully from the start," said Andrew White, research analyst at Gartner Group. "Working with companies that demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of product information management issues within the consumer goods market will help users achieve the benefits of global data synchronization more quickly."
"Velosel’s industry focus greatly complements our retail and consumer products practice," said Nona Cusick, U.S. GDS executive sponsor at Capgemini. "Our teams have been working together well, and we have already proven success in a large customer implementation."
"This approach combines Capgemini’s expertise on global data synchronization with Velosel’s deep understanding of collaborative product information management, giving our customers access to the resources and services they need to limit inefficiencies in their value chain," said Janet Chaffin, Velosel senior vice president of worldwide sales.
