Digital music sales sing at RealNetworks
It’s the same old song for RealNetworks Inc., but it’s hardly a tune the company gets tired of hearing. Once more digital music sales posted solid gains for Rhapsody, RealNetworks’ digital music service, in both Q4 and for the full year.
For the year, RealNetworks recorded digital music sales of $123 million vs. $97.5 million in 2005. Digital music in the fourth quarter reached $33.6 million, compared with $26.1 million in the prior year.
Overall, digital music accounted for 31% of total revenue of $395.3 million in 2006, compared with 30% of sales of $325.1 million in 2005.
"2006 was a very successful year for RealNetworks," says Rob Glaser, chairman and CEO of RealNetworks, No. 92 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide. "We are pleased to report another year of record revenue and strong profitability. In addition to the company`s financial achievements, 2006 was a year of important strategic achievements for Real that set us up for our next phase of growth."
