Activity builds in web-based retail industry b2b catalogs
QRS Corp. is the latest retail industry technology provider to become an alliance partner of UCCnet, enabling QRS to upload its clients’ product data into the web-based GlobalRegistry, which is accessible to other suppliers and retailers who subscribe to UCCnet.
QRS, which provides supply chain collaboration technology to retailers such as Federated Department Stores Inc. and Sears, Roebuck and Co., maintains a retail industry catalog through which retailers and their suppliers can synchronize current specification information on more than 90 million products in more than 21 vertical markets, including apparel, consumer packaged goods and hardware. Through the QRS/UCCnet alliance, companies that use the QRS catalog will be able to also access product information through UCCnet’s web-based GlobalRegistry. The GlobalRegistry supports international data standards and provides access to multiple product catalogs. More than 240 companies subscribe to UCCnet.
Transora, which has already connected its Transora Data Catalogue to UCCnet’s GlogalRegistry, reports that demand for retail industry data synchronization has grown sharply in the last few months. For example, it says consumer products manufacturer Colgate-Palmolive recently began extracting product data from its back-end SAP application for transfer through Transora’s data synchronization service to UCCnet’s GlobalRegistry, where it can be accessed by retailers.
UCCnet and its alliance partners seek to ensure that by accessing product data that can be synchronized over the web, retailers are using the most up-to-date specifications on price, size and other attributes critical to their merchandising plans.
There are nine other UCCnet alliance partners providing integrated catalog services, including Haht Commerce Inc., Lansa and Commerce One.
