Top web sites maintain performance amid traffic growth, survey finds
Leading retail, entertainment and travel sites successfully handled customer traffic demands over the summer, though the availability of retail sites averaged 99.23% in June and July, slightly trailing entertainment sites at 99.75% and travel sites at 99.73%, according to data from web performance measurement company AlertSite.
Eight top sites in each of the three categories were monitored for the percentage of time the store was open and available, throughout the monitoring period. Of the retail sites, Gap.com had the highest availability during the two-month monitoring period, at 99.97%. Following were Kmart.com at 99.92%, Sears.com at 99.87%, Dell.com at 99.82%, BestBuy.com at 99.29%, Nike.com at 99.04%, Target.com at 97.98% and Walmart.com at 97.94%.
In contrast to the retail category, where Walmart.com and Kmart.com’s availability across the two months dropped to below 98%, all of the entertainment sites and all of the travel sites monitored had availability that averaged 99% or higher. Across the two months, entertainment site MTV.com had the highest percentage of availability at 99.99%. Target.com had the lowest percentage of availability of any site monitored, at 95.99% for the single month of June, according to AlertSite.
“We see a growing number of companies who want to learn and execute a process for delivering proof of site performance by assessing vulnerabilities, where their breaking points are and where to add resources so that their site is always available for their customers,” says Ken Gross, CEO of AlertSite.
