Apparel and beauty sites have a strong July


Seven of the top 10 online apparel and beauty sites experienced double-digit increases in visits in July, according to Nielsen/NetRatings. Old Navy led the group, with visits increasing 87% to 4.21 million from 2.25 million in July 2004.

Zappos.com experienced the second largest increase, with site visits rising 50% to 2.4 million from 1.6 million a year earlier, followed by Gap, up 30% to 2.6 million from 2 million; Avon, up 27% to 2.8 million from 2.2 million; Land’s End, up 21% to 2.3 million from 1.9 million; LLBean.com, up 21% to 2.5 million from 2.1 million; and eBay Clothing, Shoes and Accessories, up 16% to 8.8 million from 7.6 million.

Visits also increased at VictoriasSecret.com, rising 2% to 2.77 million from 2.72 million. The only site experiencing a drop in traffic was eBay Jewelry and Watches, where visits dropped 1% to 4.38 million from 4.44 million.

EBay Clothing, Shoes and Accessories had the most visits in July, followed by eBay Jewelry and Watches, Old Navy, eBay Health and Beauty (3.2 million visits), Avon, VictoriasSecret.com, Gap, LLBean.com, Zappos.com, and Lands End.

In the top 10 apparel and beauty sites ranked by time per visit were Mary Kay, 43 minutes, 43 seconds; Avon, 35 minutes, 25 seconds; Roamans, 17 minutes, 54 seconds; Lands End, 17 minutes, 23 seconds; VictoriasSecret.com, 16 minutes, 5 seconds; DavidsBridal.com, 14 minutes, 19 seconds; Blair.com, 14 minutes, 7 seconds; LLBean.com, 13 minutes, 25 seconds; Chadwick’s, 12 minutes, 29 seconds; and eBay Clothing, Shoes and Accessories, 11 minutes, 44 seconds.

Also in July, the food and beverage segment had the most online ad impressions in the consumer goods industry, according to Nielsen’s AdRelevance report. The leading segments in the report and their numbers of impressions are (in millions):
