J.C. Penney offers its weekly sales fliers online

J.C. Penney is loading its weekly newspaper ads onto its web site, starting this week, the company announced today. Penney says the move is in response to declining readership of newspapers, the traditional venue for promoting store sales, and to the growing use of the Internet by women, J.C. Penney’s core market, including mothers, half of whom go online daily.

Customers seeking sale items can click on “This week’s store ad,” then search by page, department, category or a particular item. Customers can create a list from the ad to take to a JCPenney department store. Customers also can enter their ZIP codes to view current in-store sales specific to their area and locate the nearest store.

"Our research indicates that more women, our core customer, are shopping and browsing online, and over half of American mothers visit the web daily,” said John Budd, JCPenney executive vice president and chief marketing officer. “We realize that she is time-starved, and when she can squeeze a visit to our stores into her day, we want to make the visit as easy and stress-free as possible. Providing her with an online resource to our in-store specials, giving her the opportunity to prepare a shopping list in advance and providing directions to her nearest store will be a true time-savings tool."

J. C. Penney Corp., Inc., the wholly-owned operating subsidiary of J.C. Penney Co. Inc., operates 1,061 JCPenney department stores.
