Customers and retailers are happy with online season, says Shop.org/BizRate

The holiday online shopping season is proceeding smoothly, according to this week’s report from the Shop.org/BizRate.com 2002 Online Holiday Mood Study. The survey reports that 85% of online buyers have been very or somewhat satisfied with their experience this year. At the same time, 47% of retailers said the time to fulfill a customer`s order has significantly or slightly improved compared to last year.

During the first two weeks of December, 35% of retailers surveyed posted revenue increases of 50% or more compared to the same period last year and 61% posted increases of 25% or more, according to the survey.

The Online Holiday Mood Survey, which involves 58 Shop.org members as well as a consumer survey, also asks retailers to report which marketing and promotion efforts are most successful. 60% cited free shipping with conditions as their most successful promotion for driving business. Offline/online sales were second at 22% and online-only sales third, at 21%. Retailers continue to rank e-mail No. 1 at 74% and search engine placements No. 2 at 28% as vehicles for communicating promotions.
